I have made the rabbet plane from the book during a tool making class with Harry at the WBS. He is a national treasure. The instructions are clear but a confident, just do it attitude is needed rather than overthinking each step. I don't think its overpriced given the limited appeal of the subject matter and printing costs. One issue might be the fact while lots of the steps can be done with hand tools, some of them really require some larger floor standing tools- drill press and grinder for what I did. Also you're not going to get some of the materials in a big box hardware store. Trips to a junkyard are required- truck leaf springs and old bedframes for example. But that is part of the fun.The best part of the book is the inspiration it provides. With the lack of availability of inexpensive good quality hand tools being able (or at least trying) to make your own custom tools and having fun doing it is great. I'll never look at an old file or tire iron the same again.
