Christopher Schwarz has emerged in recent years as a major contributor to the current resurgence in serious hand tool use and to its associated deep culture going back centuries (Wiki: Albrecht Durer; millennia, actually, if you count Romans, Egyptians,..., Neanderthals!). To those of us over 60 who used these tools (clumsily) in high school shop class, he is a breath of fresh air, as we try to get back to them in our incipient geezerhood! He has used these tools seriously since childhood, and knows what he is doing. He has professional experience in media development (Editor of Popular Woodworking, etc.), and the video presentations are technically superb. Many times watching these videos I have seen a presentation of a technique which I remember doing badly and screwing up, and he shows, simply, the right way to do it! (My old shop teacher was a useless drunk!) So these videos are a major asset to us old geezers, and others, who want to get back to 'real' woodwork with good hand tools. These tools are now available in excellent quality, new. They are not cheap, but not excessive, accessible to retirees who have a little money and would rather do hand woodwork than restore old tools and hang around auctions and estate sales! To anyone starting, expanding or getting back into hand woodworking, I would highly recommend these videos as a smart initial investment. Watch them to set priorities before becoming intoxicated with the superb new hand tools now available! (Advice I did not exactly follow myself!)BD Burleigh, PhD (Full Geezer with Tenure)
